o execute successful events throughout the year, we rely on the donation of items and time from our Cherokee volunteers. To ensure that you don't miss any of the fun, please remember to follow the Cherokee PTA Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Back To School Bash Playground Party
Held the week before school starts, this event is a great way for the kids to get excited about the upcoming school year and see some of their friends and teacher. Held in the Cherokee parking lot, we arrange for a few food tucks to be available so families can enjoy their time with us and don’t need to cook that night. The school is locked during the event so in the case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled.
The PTA has a table at the event for parents or guardians to obtain more information or sign up for the Cherokee Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The first 100 membership forms submitted will receive an exclusive PTA Members Spirit Stick.
Spruce Up Day
Scheduled before school starts and again in the Spring, we designate a day that parents and guardians can volunteer to come and do some light trimming, weeding and plant removal in our flower beds, entryway and courtyard. All participants are asked to bring gloves and any hand tools and/or knee pads that they think they may need. Students are welcome to attend but must attend with parent or guardian supervision. A Sign-up genius is posted for those that are interested.
Curriculum Night
Our annual educational open house, this event is hosted by our Cherokee teachers. Scheduled a few weeks after the start of school, this virtual session allows parents to receive critical information that will benefit their child's learning throughout the year and gain insight on the material that will be covered over the course of the year. During this session, parents can openly ask questions to their teachers, while other the classroom parents can listen in.
Spirit Sticks®
Spirit Sticks are small custom-embroidered patches that students can purchase, earn, collect, and display on their Spirit Ring™. Spirit Sticks promote school spirit and participation by providing meaningful extrinsic rewards, with lasting value beyond the school year. At the end of each month, there will be a designated Spirit Stick Sale day where a PTA representative(s) will be present during lunch times to sell Spirit Sticks to the students. This is a cash only sale and each stick is $1.
Mumkin Sale
In partnership with Foertmeyer & Sons Greenhouse Co., we offer you the opportunity to choose from an assortment of high quality, hardy mums, Mumkins and Mumsters, just in time for fall decorating. Each mum, Mumkin or Mumster is carefully packaged and then delivered to Cherokee Elementary for Saturday pickup only. There is also non-plant items such as candles and mum picks, that family members who are not local, can still support our school. To view the 2022 catalog, click here. To motivate student participation in the sale, for every 5 items sold, students will receive 1 entry into the mega raffle.
Picture Days
Scheduled twice a year, students will have a designated day in the Fall to get their individual and class photos taken. Parents will be notified via email with a proof of their child’s indivdual photo and can then order them online. Photos will be distributed to the students at the school to bring home. There is a Retake Picture Day scheduled in November, if your child missed the first one or you didn’t like the photos taken. We also offer a second Picture Day in the Spring, so that students can opt to have their individual photos taken again.
Staff Appreciation Week
This week long celebration is dedicated to the staff at Cherokee. As a way to show our staff how much we appreciate all that heir hardwork and dedication they have to our students, we schedule a daily treat for them. Donations and volunteers are greatly appreciated for this event and a Signup Genius will be routed as we get closer to the event.
Niederman Farm Night
A family favorite event for our Cheetahs, Niederman Farm Night provides a fun event for students and their family can socialize with classmates, fellow parents and Cherokee staff. Located just down the road from Cherokee, we schedule a night for our Cherrtahs to enjoy everything that the farm has to offer. Not only are there hayrides, live animals, a corn maze, but Niederman Farms offers a giant jumping pillow and so much more. This event does not disappoint and the shop at the farm will be open during the event so make sure you schedule some time to stop in and see all the local merchandise they offer, especially their famous donuts.Tickets will be available at a discount price in advance or full price the night of. Trunk or Treat
To help get our Cheetah’s in the Halloween spirit, we host an annual Trunk or Treat in the Cherokee parking lot. This event allows parents and guardians to volunteer to bring their festively decorated vehicles to the school parking lot and handout candy to students and their families. Cheetah families who have registered for the event can show up in costume and Trick or Treat at each car. If you are unable to participate in this event, but would still like to support it, feel free to send your child into school with prepackaged candy to fill our candy donation station.
Restaurant Nights
Throughout the year, we will be hosting various Restaurant Nights at local establishments like Texas Roadhouse, Chipolte and Marco’s Pizza. These nights allow the PTA to partner with the designed local restaurants to raise funds for the Cherokee PTA. Since a portion of each sale goes directly to our PTA, it is very important that customers indicate when they order in-person or online, that their order is for the Cherokee PTA. Emails and social media posts for the events will indicate if there is any unique code required.
Spirit Wear Sale
To help show our school pride, we schedule 3 Spirit Wear Sales a year so that present and future students and families can purchase official Cherokee Elementary Cheetahwear. All orders for the sale are done online and then sent home with the students when the order arrive.
Birthday Celebration
On the last Wednesday of each month, we take some time to celebrate any student that had a birthday during that month. Birthday students receive a free lunch, cookie and a special Spirit Stick and card from the Cherokee PTA.
Grandparent/Special Person Lunch
As a way to share the Cherokee experience, we designate 1 day during a specific week where students can elect to have a grandparent or special person come and eat lunch with them.
Take A Star
As we get closer to the holiday season, we run a program that provides students and their families the opportunity to purchase items for other students within the Cherokee family. We then host our annual Take A Star Wrapping Party, where students and their families come and enjoy some holiday music and treats, while wrapping all the donations. The wrapped gifts are then given to the recipents, before leaving for Winter Break.
Let’s Glow Party
A fun new event this year is the Let’s Glow Party. This fun event is held under black lights where students can dance and play games with their class. Students will receive a commemorative shirt that was designed by one of our 6th grades and voted on by the student body at the end of 2021/2022 school year.

Towards the end of the year, we arrange a fun-filled day of outdoor activities for our students. Positioned around the Cherokee property, students will partake in activities such as the Egg Race, Relays, Sponge Toss and so much more. To cool off after all those activities, the students are provided a refreshing treat from the PTA.

As a Way to Passionately Appreciate our Wonderful Staff, we arrange various events throughout the year for our staff. It is held the first Wednesday of the month.
